Can creativity be agile?
This question was the title of a great post by influxinsights and caught my eye.
Creativity is agile by nature!
And this DRC Music Project by Damon Albarn is a perfect example of agility in action.
11 producers went to Congo teamed up with the best of contemporary Congolese musicians and performers and recorded an album in just five days. They wasted no time – within 30 minutes of landing in the capital, Kinshasha, they were recording samples with a local band.
But why even ask this question? Can creativity be agile?
Because up to now we played by the rules of business
A world of predefined outcome and target
Process over better solution
No changes, no adjustments along the way
Fear of failure
To date the only way to succeed
But usually with dissatisfying results and a mediocre business impact
A more agile process in business will help creativity
Will demand to run business with a more creative mindset
Creating a new way to solve problems and collaborate
Less talk, more walk … more creativity in action
It will create better solutions, serving customer needs better and create sustainable business value
A study by IBM’s Institute for Business Value identified creativity is “the most important leadership competency for the successful enterprise of the future”
Creatives and Designers need to prepare.
They will play a much bigger role in business soon
The Idea: 19 spheres come to life, as you become a supernatural conductor. Each ball becomes an orchestral instrument that increases in volume as it physically rises. You can create your own soundscape whilst the balls levitate and dance to the music.
This is currently controlled via the touch screen of an iPhone, however, it may soon be naturally controlled with your movement.
Biophilia is an iPhone/iPad release of Björk’s latest album created in collaboration with Scott Snibbe and her longtime design collaborators M/M (Paris). Comprising a suite of musical pieces and interactive artworks, Biophilia is released as ten in-app download experiences that are accessed through a three-dimensional galaxy, the album’s theme song Cosmogony. “3 Dreams of Black” is Chris Milk‘s new interactive film, created in WebGL with some friends from Google, for Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi’s ROME, featuring Jack White & Norah Jones. The project is a Chrome Experiment (http://www.chromeexperiments.com/) that showcases some of the latest web technologies in modern browsers like Google Chrome.
In building “3 Dreams of Black”, we’ve had the opportunity to build many tools, libraries, and models. We’ve fully opened up the source code and made it available for web developers to tinker with us at http://www.ro.me/tech. In addition to the code, a few other highlights include eight WebGL demos, a fun model viewer for interacting with some of the animals from the web experience, and the Three.js 3D library used for building the experience. In addition, a big part of the project was to define a good pipeline for getting all the animals and environment models right in WebGL — for this, we extended Blender with custom plugins so we could manipulate and export the data with ease.

Noisey is a new video-based platform from Vice for showcasing the most essential new music by emerging talents from all corners of the globe. Tonight is the official launch of Noisey in Germany, and one of Berlin’s own stages for new music, Tape.

Mirror, an interactive follow up to Sour’s Award-winning “Hibi No Niero, has been awarded gold for media innovation and non-broadcast media at the Art Directors Club global awards in New York. The music video for Japanese band Sour‘s “Mirror” track, best viewed in Chrome or Safari, pulls in video from users’ webcam, Twitter and Facebook accounts. The song ‘Utsushi Kagami’ (Mirror) sings about the fact that everything and everyone around you is a mirror that reflects yourself. You can find who you are in the reflection of others. $5227 was raised through 63 backers at Kickstarter. Those who pledged $30 or more received a promotional flyer signed by the members of SOUR, and a first look at the video prior to the release. $50 or more earned an mp3 of the new track ‘Mirror’. $100 or more earned the right to a name on the music video credit list under Special Thanks. $200 or more earned entry as special guest to the SOUR album release concert in Tokyo on December 19. $500 or more was recognised with a special SOUR T shirt & Eco bag. $1000 or more earned free video concept work from Masashi Kawamura.

the Ultraviolet video is a bit cheesy but worth watching. Dece Ultraviolet is
the latest attempt by the entertainment industry to distribute its content securely. The basic idea behind UltraViolet is the cloud based digital locker for content and rights licenses. DECE (Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem) which is a cross-industry consortium of over 50 companies (and growing, Apple and Disney are missing!) committed to make UltraViolet the next generation standard for rich media experience where the users will get the flexibility and user experience they’ve been denied for over a decade now. With UltraViolet, users will be able to download, stream, share and even get copies for use on physical media, basically covering a great deal of the average user needs in terms of interoperability and user experience. BUT that’s solving just half (or less) of the issues. Technical agreement on a common file format is a good start, but the business model side remains an open issue. And history has shown the poor ability of the entertainment industry to be creative in this space.
