7 Ways Games Reward The Brain by Tom Chatfield

Posted in ideas, inspiration by aldorf on November 3, 2010

We’re bringing gameplay into more aspects of our lives, spending countless hours — and real money — exploring virtual worlds for imaginary treasures. Why? As Tom Chatfield shows, games are perfectly tuned to dole out rewards that engage the brain and keep us questing for more. Tom Chatfield thinks about games — what we want from them, what we get from them, and how we might use our hard-wired desire for a gamer’s reward to change the way we learn.

“Tom Chatfield’s Fun Inc. is the most elegant and comprehensive defence of the status of computer games in our culture I have read, as well as a helpful compendium of research.” Pat Kane, The Independent

Vac from the Sea – Plastic Waste – A Sustainable Dialogue

Posted in design, ideas by aldorf on November 3, 2010

It is a wake-up call and a reminder of one of the most important environmental issues today. It is not about what you make of plastic, but about where it comes from.

During the summer of 2010, environmental organizations around the world collected marine debris from the oceans and sent to home appliance maker Electrolux. From this plastic, unique concept vacuum cleaners — Vacs from the Sea — were molded. Each model is made from debris collected from a specific sea. The Vacs are now being put on display to raise awareness around the plastic issue.

The “Vac from the Sea” concept was developed by PR agency Prime Sweden, Stockholm.
