What are Fab Labs? … Replicators?

Posted in design, ideas, web by aldorf on August 24, 2010

Fab Labs are workshops where almost anyone can design and make almost anything. Under the name Fab Labs or other names such as Tech Shops and Hackerspaces, hundreds of shared spaces are providing the means to design, prototype and produce new objects, to create installations, to customize existing products.

Fab Lab pioneer Adrian Bowyer of University of Bath (UK) created with his team the RepRap 3-D printer (video). A free desktop 3D printer capable of printing plastic objects.

Since many parts of RepRap are made from plastic and RepRap can print those parts, RepRap can be considered a self-replicating machine
